Introduction

Executive creative director leading the design and development of new projects for Imagineering.

Creative Executive Kevin Rafferty is responsible for dreaming up new attraction ideas and creatively leading their story and design and development from concept to completion; or as he calls it, “From the spark to the park.”

During his over 40 years of service at WDI, Kevin worked on such attractions as Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, MuppetVision 3D, Test Track, Rock n Roller Coaster, It’s Tough to be a Bug, Flik’s Fun Fair, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, Philharmagic, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, Carsland, and created the original story, concept, and names for Radiator Racers and for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and so much more…

Most recently, Kevin conceived and led the creative design and development for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Disney’s first-ever Mickey Mouse-themed ride-through attraction, which opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in March 2020.

As an author, Kevin wrote the text for the popular book, Walt Disney Imagineering, A Behind the Dreams Look at Making the Magic Real. His latest book, Magic Journey: My Fantastical Walt Disney Imagineering Career is a personal memoir that chronicles his remarkable four decades as an Imagineer. His “fairy tale” story begins in the dish room at Disneyland and ultimately proves that when you dish upon a star your dreams come true!
